Two Fun Physical Activities for You and Your Preschooler to Do at Home
Not only does exercise offer great health benefits for all members of your family, but it’s also a stupendous way to bond with your little ones. With preschoolers, exercise cannot be a formal affair, and physical activities should be presented as fun, creative games. Here are two inventive ideas to help you get started.
Put on Your Dancing Shoes
Your first step is to design a space to motivate good moves! String a line of flashing, colorful lights across the wall or ceiling. Then put on your child’s favorite tunes and dim the lights. The snazzy environment will encourage everyone to jump, swing, groove and rock to the beat! This family dance experience is so entertaining that nobody will even realize that it’s exercise.
Pick It Up!
Do you trip on toys, shoes or dolls at every turn of the hallway in your home?
Instead of allowing your house to resemble an obstacle course, make clean up time into a fast-paced action game! Armed with a bag or basket, each family member races around the house to see who can gather up the most items. Get on your hands and knees to check under and behind furniture too. After you count items to see who picked up the most, call “Go!” one more time. Everyone should now run around the house returning things to their correct places. Don’t forget to give the winner a prize, as preschoolers are highly motivated by a reward system.
All of this stimulating exercise comes with another added bonus. Once you’re tired out and ready to kick off your shoes and catch your breath, your preschooler will also be ready to curl up for nap or quiet time!
